If you have been inside the $238M KFC Yum! Center for a basketball game, concert, rodeo, etc. and been comfortable…you can thank Air Equipment Company and ClimateCraft.
Four 100,000 cfm custom air handling units were provided to control the climate in the 22,000 seat arena that opened in the fall of 2010. Each unit contains eight 15 horsepower direct-drive fans that are controlled by ABB Variable Frequency Drives.
The units were shipped on flat bed trucks and lifted into place by cranes prior to the roof construction.
Here’s a video (courtesy of the Pipefitters Local 502) showing some snapshots of the lift. The AHU’s make an appearance around the 1:55 mark.
